The Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul will be renamed Grand Casino Arena this September under a 14-year deal with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. Here's what fans can expect.
Minnesota Wild Arena Rebranded as Grand Casino Arena Starting September 2025
In a historic move that blends sports, business, and cultural investment, the iconic Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul will officially become Grand Casino Arena starting September 3, 2025. The Minnesota Wild announced a 14-year naming rights partnership with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, who own and operate Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley.
This agreement is more than just a rebrand—it reflects a significant expansion of the tribe’s presence in the Twin Cities metro. The Mille Lacs Band already owns key downtown St. Paul properties, including the InterContinental and DoubleTree hotels. Now, with full arena signage updates—including at center ice—this partnership signals a bold investment in Minnesota’s cultural and economic future.
While financial terms remain undisclosed, industry comparisons suggest the deal could exceed $60 million. Importantly, Xcel Energy will remain a major community partner, continuing to support local hockey programs and facilities statewide.
Fans can expect all-new signage inside and out before the NHL season begins on October 7, 2025. But one big question remains: Will Minnesotans actually start calling it Grand Casino Arena—or will it always be The X in our hearts?
What do you think—will the new name stick, or is it too late to change what we’ve called it for 25 years? Share your thoughts below!
