Minnesota’s biggest bank is going national in a major way.
According to Sports Business Journal, U.S. Bank is finalizing a deal with the National Football League to become the league’s Official Bank beginning next April.
This move would make Minneapolis-based U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB) the primary financial sponsor for the NFL, succeeding Charlotte-based Truist Financial Corp., whose current rights expire at the end of the 2025 season.
A Perfect Fit for Minnesota’s Hometown Bank
If you’ve been to a Vikings game, you already know the U.S. Bank name. The company owns the naming rights for U.S. Bank Stadium, home to the Minnesota Vikings. Beyond football, their presence stretches across Minnesota’s sports scene — with sponsorships that include the Timberwolves, Twins, and Wild, along with the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games, which will take place in the Twin Cities next summer.
This new NFL partnership will elevate the brand from a regional powerhouse to a national marketing force. With over $523 billion in assets and a dominant 41% Twin Cities market share, U.S. Bank continues to expand its visibility and influence far beyond Minnesota.
A Major Move in Sports Marketing
U.S. Bank’s last major national sports partnership came through the WNBA Changemaker program (2022–2025), where it championed financial empowerment and diversity in sports. Now, by aligning with the NFL, the bank is stepping onto one of the biggest stages in American sports — one that connects with millions of fans every week.
It’s not just about branding — it’s about solidifying Minnesota’s role in shaping the future of national sports business.
Minnesota Pride, National Reach
This move highlights how Minnesota-based companies continue to punch above their weight. From Target and General Mills to Best Buy and 3M — and now U.S. Bank — the Twin Cities continue to make an impact well beyond state lines.
What do you think — should U.S. Bank keep expanding nationally, or focus on its Minnesota roots?
