Killen’s Irish Pub Is Bringing Authentic Irish Craft to the North Loop

Killen’s Irish Pub Is Bringing Authentic Irish Craft to the North Loop

A True Irish Pub Is Finally Coming to North Loop Minneapolis

North Loop continues to evolve as one of Minneapolis’s most active neighborhoods for dining and nightlife. This spring, it adds something it has never had before. A traditional Irish pub.

Killen’s Irish Pub is set to open in May at 324 North Sixth Avenue, bringing a new option to the ground floor of the Variant apartment building.

Who Is Behind Killen’s Irish Pub

Peter Killen is no stranger to the Twin Cities bar scene. He previously led Cara Irish Pubs, the group behind Kieran’s Irish Pub and The Local. After stepping away from the industry for a few years, Killen decided he had one more project left.

This pub will be the first one to carry his name and his personal vision.

Built in Ireland, Opened in Minneapolis

Unlike many new bar concepts, Killen’s Irish Pub is being physically built overseas. The bar and several interior elements are being constructed in Ireland and shipped to Minneapolis in containers. The goal is to recreate the feel of a pub you would actually find in Ireland, not a replica.

The space will measure roughly 4,700 square feet and seat about 130 people. A large horseshoe bar anchors the room, supported by additional indoor seating and a 50 seat patio.

Why This Matters for North Loop

North Loop has plenty of cocktail bars, breweries, and high energy spots. What it has not had is a traditional Irish pub within the neighborhood itself. While Kieran’s and The Local are close, they are not walkable for most North Loop residents.

This opening fills that gap and adds a more conversational, neighborhood focused option to the mix.

Community Impact and Real Estate Perspective

Restaurants like this often strengthen neighborhood identity. A well run pub becomes a regular gathering place, not just a destination. That kind of consistency matters for nearby condos, apartments, and retail spaces.

As North Loop continues to mature, projects that emphasize community over novelty tend to stick.
