A Luxury Dome Resort Just Opened Along Minnesota’s North Shore

A Luxury Dome Resort Just Opened Along Minnesota’s North Shore

The Harbors Resort Opens on Minnesota's North Shore Near Two Harbors

A New Kind of Luxury Just Arrived on the North Shore

Minnesota's North Shore has always been one of the most sought-after stretches of shoreline in the Midwest, and a new resort is giving Twin Cities residents a fresh reason to make the drive.

The Harbors opened over Memorial Day weekend 2026 at a 27-acre property off Stanley Road, less than three miles south of Two Harbors. The resort opened about half of its 40 cabin units for the holiday weekend, with additional units expected to come online in early June.

The property includes four accommodation styles:

  • Geodesic domes
  • A-frame cabins with sleeping lofts
  • Scandinavian-style one and two-bedroom cottages
  • Vila suites of roughly 2,100 square feet with three bedrooms, three baths, and capacity for up to 12 guests

Five more cabin units are expected to be added to the property in the coming year.

How the Experience Is Different

Owner John Leupke built The Harbors with a specific guest in mind.

Most units are limited to four guests, making the resort a destination for couples and small families rather than large group travel.

The entire booking and arrival process is digital. Guests receive a door code and check themselves in, bypassing a front desk entirely.

On the property, rotating food trucks provide dining options, and vendors serving coffee, craft beer, and wine add to the experience.

A large overlook deck accommodates live music performances, outdoor movie nights, and private events including weddings.

Every unit is outfitted with a full-size kitchen, giving guests full flexibility on meals.

Nightly rates range from $275 for an A-frame to $990 for a villa suite.

What This Signals for the North Shore

Leupke, who also operates Serene Quarters, a Minneapolis-based vacation property management company focused on the Brainerd Lakes area, says The Harbors is just the beginning.

He plans to develop five similar resorts in other states, targeting locations near major metro areas and state parks.

No second Minnesota site has been announced, but Leupke has expressed openness to expanding within the state.

For the Twin Cities market, this type of investment reinforces the North Shore's status as a premium short-term destination.

Increased demand for quality retreat experiences near Minneapolis and Saint Paul continues to drive interest in property along and near the Lake Superior corridor.
