50th & France Gains Momentum as Twin Cities Dining Hub

50th & France Gains Momentum as Twin Cities Dining Hub

Three New Restaurants Are Opening Inside Dexter's at 50th & France in Minneapolis This Spring

A New Food Hall Concept Comes to 50th & France

One of the most active restaurant operators in Minneapolis is adding three new dining concepts to the 50th & France corridor this spring — all under one roof.

Daniel del Prado, owner of Dexter's at 50th & France, is transforming adjacent space into The Side Door at Dexter’s, a mini food hall operating within the bar’s expanded footprint.

Three concepts are set to open:

  • Daq Daq (Korean fried chicken)
  • Lucia’s (pizza and salads)
  • Rose Sushi (nigiri and rolls)

Signage is already up, and all three brands have active social media pages ahead of their spring debut.

What Is The Side Door at Dexter’s?

The Side Door takes over the former space of SotaRol, a neighborhood staple that operated for nine years before closing in November 2024.

Del Prado secured the space last spring, expanding Dexter’s with:

  • Approximately 50 additional seats
  • A larger, more flexible kitchen
  • Capacity to support multiple food concepts simultaneously

According to the DDP Restaurant Group, all three concepts are targeting a spring opening, with more formal media announcements expected later this summer.

A Rapid Expansion at 50th & France

This isn’t a one-off project. The Side Door is part of a broader push by del Prado to reshape the corridor.

Since August 2024, he has opened:

  • Dexter’s
  • Thérèse
  • Noma Hi-Fi

That’s four concepts in under two years, all within a few blocks.

More is already in the pipeline. Del Prado and partner Ryan Burnet are planning a new concept called Americana at the former Cocina del Barrio space. The project is expected to feature a mid-century design inspired by Mad Men, though details remain limited.

Why 50th & France Is Worth Watching

The 50th & France area has long been a strong retail and dining destination, but the recent wave of openings is adding a new level of energy and variety.

Del Prado has openly compared the corridor’s potential to the North Loop — a district known for its density of high-quality restaurants, walkability, and sustained growth.

For buyers, homeowners, and investors, this kind of concentrated restaurant and retail activity is more than just lifestyle — it’s a signal. Neighborhoods that attract consistent hospitality investment tend to see stronger long-term demand and increased visibility across the metro.
