Twin Cities Country Club Fees Hit Record Highs

Twin Cities Country Club Fees Hit Record Highs

A New Record for Twin Cities Private Clubs

Interlachen Country Club in Edina has become the first private club in the Twin Cities to charge more than $100,000 in initiation fees.

The club’s joining fee now sits at $105,000, up from $95,000 last year and nearly double what it was in 2020.

Two other top-tier clubs, Hazeltine National in Chaska and Wayzata Country Club, both raised their fees to $95,000 as well.

According to an analysis of 25 Twin Cities country clubs:

  • The average initiation fee across the metro has climbed to $46,600
  • This is up about 9% from last year
  • It’s a dramatic increase from the $18,000 average in 2020

Monthly dues are rising too:

  • Now averaging $1,160 per month
  • Up from roughly $1,075 last year

Capital Investment Is Driving the Increases

The fee hikes aren’t happening in a vacuum.

Interlachen, Hazeltine, and Wayzata have each invested more than $10 million in renovations over the past couple of years.

  • Wayzata Country Club completed a $15 million golf course project, driving a surge in membership interest
  • Crooked Water Golf Club (formerly Burl Oaks) invested $12 million and raised its initiation fee 40% this year to $17,500

Industry data supports the trend:

  • Clubs that reinvest consistently tend to command higher fees and stronger demand
  • 48% of Twin Cities clubs now have a waitlist, compared to 25% in 2019
  • At the top tier, roughly 70% of clubs report waitlists

What This Means for Edina, Wayzata, and Chaska Home Buyers

For anyone considering a home purchase in these communities, the trajectory of nearby private clubs is worth paying attention to.

When clubs are:

  • Attracting sustained demand
  • Investing heavily in their facilities
  • Commanding six-figure membership fees

It reflects the overall desirability of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Edina, Wayzata, and Chaska continue to draw buyers who value:

  • Lifestyle
  • Community infrastructure
  • Long-term stability

These are not just golf destinations — they’re year-round amenity ecosystems, and the next generation of buyers is responding to that.

The Next Generation Is Reshaping Club Membership

Clubs are evolving to meet younger members where they are.

  • The average age of a new private club member nationally is 42
  • A 2024 analysis found the median age of prospective members at Hazeltine dropped by nearly eight years between 2019 and 2023

Clubs across the metro are investing in:

  • Junior golf programs
  • Expanded tennis facilities
  • Wellness amenities
  • Family-focused events

This shift toward family-oriented, year-round experiences mirrors what buyers in these communities are looking for in a neighborhood.
