Taiwanese Bakery Giant 85°C Coming to Blaine’s Asia Village in 2026

Taiwanese Bakery Giant 85°C Coming to Blaine’s Asia Village in 2026

Move over donuts and danishes—Minnesota is getting a major upgrade in the pastry department. Internationally beloved Taiwanese chain 85°C Bakery Cafe, often referred to as the “Starbucks of Taiwan,” has officially announced it will open its first Minnesota location at Asia Village in Blaine in early 2026.

If you haven’t heard of 85°C Bakery Cafe yet, you’re in for a treat—literally. This isn't your typical coffee shop. Known for baking 50+ varieties of pastries fresh every hour, the brand combines the best of Asian and European flavors with a touch of culinary magic. From savory pork sung buns to sweet ube bread, matcha chocolate rolls, and sun-dried tomato ravioli pastries, there’s something for everyone. Oh, and don’t skip the drinks—85°C also offers an extensive menu of boba teas, lattes, smoothies, and specialty coffees.

Why Blaine?
The bakery’s first Minnesota location will be part of the exciting new Asia Village development, a 130,000-square-foot destination coming to the former Herberger’s space at Northtown Mall. This cultural hub will feature an Asian grocery store, a curated food court, and an impressive lineup of Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, and Chinese eateries.

85°C Bakery Cafe will join Pho Mai, a local Vietnamese favorite opening its third fast-casual location at Asia Village. With an open kitchen design and authentic menu, Pho Mai will add to the vibrant mix of culinary experiences anchoring this food and culture destination.

A Bakery That Drives National Buzz
85°C isn’t just another chain—it’s a global phenomenon. The bakery’s U.S. debut in Irvine, California, drew two-hour lines and generated up to $30,000 in grand opening sales, according to QSR Magazine. The hype is real, and now Minnesota will get its first bite.

Since launching in 2004, 85°C has grown to over 1,000 locations worldwide, including massive popularity across Taiwan, China, Australia, and the U.S. The name “85°C” comes from the optimal temperature for brewing coffee—because yes, they’re just as serious about their drinks as their baked goods.

Asia Village: More Than Just a Food Court
Co-developed by Michael Bui, who also co-owns Pho Mai, Asia Village is more than just a collection of restaurants. It’s a celebration of Asian culture, cuisine, and community, and it’s already 90% leased ahead of its grand opening.

Blaine and the surrounding northern suburbs are quickly becoming culinary destinations in their own right, and Asia Village is poised to be a regional draw for foodies, families, and curious newcomers alike.
