New Life Academy Buys 29 Acres in Woodbury, MN for Sports Complex Expansion
A Major Expansion Is Coming to Woodbury's Bailey Road
Woodbury continues to grow, and one of the most significant local developments in years is now underway. New Life Academy, a private Christian school based in Woodbury, has purchased 29 acres directly west of its campus for 6.75 million dollars. The land sits at 6370 Bailey Road, just down the road from the school's main buildings at 6758 Bailey Road.
The seller was Newport based Bailey Nurseries, and the deal was confirmed through a certificate of real estate value filed at the end of June. For families across the Twin Cities east metro, this is more than a real estate transaction. It is the first visible step in a plan that will reshape a large stretch of the area.
What New Life Academy Plans to Build
According to an environmental assessment worksheet filed with the city, the academy intends to use the land for a substantial expansion. The plans include parks along with sports complexes and fields for baseball, soccer, and pickleball. For a school that ranks among the largest private schools in the Twin Cities by enrollment, the added space supports both its students and the surrounding community.
The project broker noted earlier this year that New Life was expected to be the first to move forward, so these fields are likely just the beginning of a longer build out.
The Bigger Picture for Woodbury, Newport, and Maplewood
The school's purchase is one piece of a much larger 184 acre development proposed earlier in the year. That land sits north of Bailey Road and straddles Woodbury, Newport, and Maplewood. Other parts of the project bring a very different mix of uses to the area.
Two Minnesota developers signed on last fall to build two industrial buildings, an apartment building, and a Kwik Trip gas station and convenience store on a portion of the land. Additional proposals call for roughly 89,600 square feet of retail along Bailey Road and more than 660,000 square feet of business park space.
For local homeowners, a shift this large tends to ripple outward. New amenities, added housing, and expanded commercial space can influence everything from daily traffic patterns to long term demand in nearby neighborhoods. If you live near the Bailey Road corridor, this is a project worth tracking closely.
