Mall of America Launches Overnight Parking for MSP Travelers
Travelers flying out of Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport now have a new parking option that could lower the cost of a trip before it even begins. Mall of America has launched an overnight parking program designed specifically for airport travelers, offering rates that undercut most on airport parking ramps.
How the Mall of America Parking Works
The new program is located on Level P7 East of the Mall of America parking ramp. This area is secured, monitored around the clock, and reserved for airport travelers, with more than nine hundred dedicated spaces available. Rates start at twelve dollars per night, compared with MSP on airport parking that typically ranges from nineteen to thirty dollars per day.
Travelers reserve their spot online and access the ramp using a parking ticket or QR code. Once parked, vehicles remain in a controlled access area that prevents re entry without proper credentials.
Getting From the Mall to MSP Airport
Unlike traditional remote airport parking lots, Mall of America does not offer a shuttle service. Instead, travelers can use the METRO Blue Line light rail station located directly at the mall. The airport is just a few stops away, serving both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Ride hailing services are also readily available from the mall.
For many travelers, especially those familiar with the light rail, this tradeoff may be worth the savings.
Why This Matters for Bloomington and the Twin Cities
The launch comes as the City of Bloomington advances an ordinance aimed at regulating airport related parking. The proposal would formalize hotel airport parking where it already exists and require city review for new remote parking operations in existing structures. It also sets aside land from long standing parking operators along American Boulevard for future redevelopment.
Together, these moves suggest growing demand for airport parking alternatives and a shift in how cities manage land near major transportation hubs.
What Travelers Should Consider
For budget conscious travelers or frequent flyers, this new option adds flexibility. For others, the convenience of parking directly at the terminal may still win. Either way, the addition of Mall of America overnight parking expands the conversation around travel, transit, and development near MSP.
If you live in Bloomington, the south metro, or anywhere in the Twin Cities, these changes affect daily life more than you might think, from traffic patterns to redevelopment opportunities.
