Kwik Trip Plans First Edina Location at Former Redevelopment Site
Convenience Giant Targets 5780 Lincoln Drive Near Highway 169
Kwik Trip Inc. has submitted plans to open a new gas station and convenience store in Edina, Minnesota. The proposed site, located at 5780 Lincoln Drive, sits just off Highway 169 and is currently home to an office building constructed in 1981.
A Shift from Housing to Retail
The location was once slated for an affordable housing project by Minneapolis-based developer Solhem Cos., but after community pushback, the plan was dropped. Now, Kwik Trip hopes to transform the 2.59-acre property into a 9,176-square-foot, 24-hour retail store.
Jobs and Investment for Edina
The project would represent a multimillion-dollar investment, bringing 25 to 30 permanent jobs and an annual payroll of about $500,000. The proposed site includes 10 fueling stations and 32 parking spaces but no car wash.
Expanding Minnesota Footprint
Kwik Trip operates more than 200 stores across Minnesota, with new locations opening in Eagan, Pine City, Maple Plain, Sauk Centre, and Elk River. The company aims to open 30–40 new stores annually as part of its ongoing Midwest expansion.
Community Review Ahead
Because the Edina site will require rezoning, the project will be informally reviewed by the Edina Planning Commission on November 12. If approved, this would mark Edina’s first Kwik Trip and one of the closest to downtown Minneapolis.
Kwik Trip’s continued growth reflects strong regional demand for convenience and fresh groceries — right in the neighborhoods where Minnesotans live and work.
