Kwik Trip Could Be Coming to Minnetonka for the First Time Ever

Kwik Trip Proposes First Minnetonka Location Near U.S. 169

A Wisconsin Chain Eyes Minnetonka for Its First Location There

Kwik Trip, the La Crosse, Wisconsin convenience store chain, has filed a proposal with the City of Minnetonka to build its first location in the suburb. The proposed site sits along Minnetonka Boulevard near the U.S. 169 interchange, a high-traffic corridor connecting multiple west metro neighborhoods.

The project targets five separate parcels: 9800 Minnetonka Blvd., 9820 Minnetonka Blvd., 3119 F St., 3112 Gizmo Lane, and 3100 Gizmo Lane. All five buildings currently on those parcels would be demolished, including four residential properties and an auto repair shop called Boulevard Station. County records list the combined market value of the five parcels at approximately 1.7 million dollars, and each parcel is independently owned.

What the Approval Timeline Looks Like

The proposal is scheduled for review by the Minnetonka Planning Commission on Thursday, May 28th. If the commission approves the project, it moves to the Minnetonka City Council for a vote on Monday, June 8th. No opening date has been announced for the store.

Kwik Trip spokesperson Ben Leibl declined to comment on the specific Minnetonka proposal. The two nearest existing Kwik Trip locations are currently in Plymouth and Chanhassen.

Part of a Fast-Moving Minnesota Expansion

This proposal is part of a larger and accelerating expansion strategy. Kwik Trip is on pace to open at least 11 new Minnesota stores in 2026, with additional locations in the works for Bloomington, Edina, and Burnsville. The chain made its first entry into North Dakota last November and continues to close the gap between its rural and suburban presence.

Kwik Trip already operates more than 225 stores in Minnesota and over 920 total locations across Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin, and both Dakotas. The push toward closer-in suburbs reflects a deliberate strategy of moving nearer to the Twin Cities metro core.

What This Means for the West Metro

Commercial investment near major interchanges tends to attract attention from buyers and sellers who follow neighborhood activity. When established chains commit to a suburb, it typically reflects confidence in that corridor's growth trajectory and traffic patterns.

If you are tracking real estate in Minnetonka or the broader west metro, stories like this one provide useful context for where development dollars are flowing.
