A new chapter is unfolding on Robert Street as Grande Sunrise Mexican Restaurant officially opens its doors at 1385 S. Robert St. — the former home of Beirut Lebanese Restaurant.
A Full-Circle Moment for Owner Roberto Grande
Owner Roberto Grande has called the West Side home for nearly two decades. After opening his first restaurant there a decade ago, he relocated to Minneapolis’s Nokomis neighborhood for eight years — but always hoped to return closer to his roots. Now, after six months of renovations, his dream has come true.
Grande poured everything into this new location — selling his car, postponing buying a house, and investing fully in his business. “All of my plans and dreams and future are put into this place right now,” he says.
Authentic Mexican Cuisine with a Seafood Twist
The menu at Grande Sunrise features a mix of authentic Mexican staples and coastal favorites. Diners will find tortas, burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and birria — a rich, slow-cooked meat stew — alongside refreshing ceviche and seafood-inspired dishes. Roughly half of the menu highlights fresh seafood, setting it apart from many traditional taquerias in the area.
For dessert, you’ll find sweet favorites like tres leches cake and churros, a perfect finish to any meal. The restaurant also includes a small bar and plans for an outdoor patio coming spring 2026.
A True Family Operation
What makes Grande Sunrise special isn’t just the food — it’s the family behind it. Roberto’s three brothers now work alongside him, creating a tight-knit, family-run business. His menu still carries the influence of the West Side cooks who mentored him — particularly from Michoacán and Jalisco — two regions known for distinct, flavorful Mexican cuisine.
