Eagan Lands $17 Million Data Center Deal
Eagan, Minnesota is about to welcome a major new player to its business landscape. Centra — formerly known as Deep Edge — has purchased a 10-acre site on Opperman Drive for $17 million in cash, with plans to transform the property into a state-of-the-art data center.
A High-Powered Facility
Known as MSP1, this 150,000-square-foot data center will operate 24/7, delivering more than 10 megawatts of power. It will feature fully redundant Meet-Me Rooms and carrier-neutral connectivity, ensuring lightning-fast communication capabilities. Dakota Electric Association, a favored provider for data centers, will supply power to the facility.
Part of a Larger Redevelopment
The site is part of the former Thomson Reuters campus, which Ryan Companies has been redeveloping into a mix of residential and industrial uses. The existing building will be repurposed rather than torn down, a decision approved by the Eagan City Council earlier this year under the name “Project Vanderbilt.”
To the north, Amazon is building a massive three-story, 3.5 million-square-foot distribution center — one of the largest in Minnesota. On the west side of the campus, new residential developments are underway. Ryan Companies also has additional build-to-suit sites available for potential tenants.
Eagan’s Emerging Tech and Logistics Hub
This project signals a shift in Eagan’s role within the Twin Cities economy. With a major tech facility and one of Amazon’s largest distribution hubs operating side-by-side, the city could see new opportunities in logistics, technology, and supporting industries.
Centra’s presence, combined with Amazon’s, is likely to draw more infrastructure investments and potentially increase the appeal of surrounding neighborhoods. While some may raise questions about traffic and environmental impact, many see this as a win for local job creation and economic growth.
Eagan is clearly positioning itself as a future-forward suburb — one that blends residential living with cutting-edge business development.
