H1 Minnesota Approves 91.7 Million for Water Infrastructure Projects
Where the Money Is Going
Minnesota recently approved 91.7 million dollars in public infrastructure funding to support water projects across 26 cities. The funding focuses on replacing lead and galvanized service lines and upgrading water treatment systems. These investments are coordinated through state programs that prioritize public health and long term system reliability.
One of the largest awards went to St Paul Regional Water Services which received 28 million dollars toward construction and final site work at the McCarrons Water Treatment Plant in Maplewood. The facility now serves fourteen east metro communities and includes a new water quality testing lab.
What Hastings and Stillwater Are Doing
Hastings received nearly 10 million dollars in grants and loans to build a new water treatment plant designed to remove PFAS from active wells. Construction began this year and the plant is expected to be fully operational by mid 2027. This project directly addresses emerging contamination standards that many cities are now racing to meet.
Stillwater received a 1.2 million dollar grant to replace approximately one hundred galvanized water services with copper. The city still has hundreds remaining but this marks the second year of state support to accelerate replacements.
