Delta Brings Back Nonstop Flights from Minneapolis to Maui

Delta Brings Back Nonstop Flights from Minneapolis to Maui

Delta Revives Nonstop MSP to Maui Flights for Minnesota Travelers

Minnesota travelers have a new reason to start planning winter vacations. Delta Air Lines has announced it will revive nonstop service from Minneapolis St Paul International Airport to Kahului Airport on Maui beginning in December 2026.

This marks the airline’s second attempt at launching the route after the 2023 Lahaina wildfires forced an indefinite cancellation.

What the MSP to Maui Nonstop Means for Twin Cities Travelers

For residents of Minneapolis, St Paul, Woodbury, Edina, and the broader Twin Cities, nonstop service to Maui offers a major convenience upgrade.

The flight will run approximately eight to nine hours. That eliminates the need for a connection through Seattle, Los Angeles, or Honolulu. For families traveling during Minnesota’s long winters, cutting out a layover can reduce stress and save at least two hours of total travel time.

When Delta first announced the route in 2023, some introductory fares briefly appeared in the $500 range before the flights were canceled. Tickets for the revived service go on sale February 14, and pricing will be closely watched by Minnesota travelers.

Maui’s Tourism Recovery

Maui continues to rebuild following the devastating 2023 wildfires. Visitor numbers in 2025 were down roughly 14 percent compared to 2022 levels.

At the same time, Maui County leaders have passed legislation aimed at phasing out thousands of short term vacation rentals by 2029 to 2031. This could shift lodging demand back toward traditional resorts, particularly in areas like Wailea and South Maui.

For Minnesotans who typically rely on vacation rentals, this policy shift may influence both pricing and availability in the coming years.

A Bigger Signal for MSP

During the announcement event at MSP, Delta also hinted at the possibility of adding another new international destination in 2026. That suggests continued growth and confidence in Minneapolis St Paul International Airport as a major Midwest hub.

For Minnesota residents, expanded air service strengthens business ties, tourism flow, and overall connectivity. That ripple effect often benefits local economies across the Twin Cities metro.

If you’re thinking about relocating within Minnesota or planning your next move in places like Woodbury, Afton, or Lake Elmo, strong transportation access is one more factor that supports long term value.
