Bauhaus Brew Labs Is Closing: The End of a Craft Beer Era in Northeast Minneapolis

A Northeast Minneapolis Landmark Is Shutting Down

Bauhaus Brew Labs opened in 2014 inside a converted 1920s industrial warehouse in northeast Minneapolis, right at the height of Minnesota's craft beer expansion. The brewery built a loyal following through its approachable German-style beers, one of the largest and most distinctive taprooms in the Twin Cities, and a reputation as a live music destination during events like Art-A-Whirl.

After more than 12 years, the brewery announced this week that it will close at the end of June 2026, with a farewell weekend planned for June 26 through 28.

For Twin Cities locals who have spent summer evenings in that courtyard or caught a set from a local band inside that warehouse, the news lands hard.

The Reasons Behind the Closure

The brewery's ownership team was candid in their announcement. Rising costs throughout the supply chain, a significant consumer shift away from craft beer, the financial damage from the pandemic, and the recent increase in federal immigration enforcement, which the team described as something that directly impacted businesses throughout the Minneapolis hospitality industry, all combined to create pressure that proved unmanageable.

Bauhaus worked hard to find a path forward. They launched a non-alcoholic beer brand and developed a line of THC beverages to try to capture changing consumer demand. Neither move generated enough revenue to sustain the business long-term.

Part of a Bigger Shift Across Minnesota Brewing

Bauhaus is not the first, and likely not the last. A steady stream of well-known Minnesota craft breweries has closed over the past two years, with multiple Twin Cities names included in that list. The industry is dealing with a convergence of post-pandemic behavioral shifts, rising operational costs, and growing competition from new categories of beverages.

Northeast Minneapolis, long considered a hub for independent taprooms, has now seen several closures in quick succession. While Dangerous Man Brewing recently announced it would take over a nearby space, the loss of Bauhaus leaves a meaningful gap in what has defined the neighborhood's commercial identity.

What to Do Before They Close

Bauhaus is not going out quietly. Their annual Liquid Zoo concert at Art-A-Whirl runs this weekend, May 15 through 17, with live bands performing in the outdoor courtyard. For anyone who has been meaning to make it out there, this is the weekend.

The official farewell weekend follows on June 26 through 28, timed to coincide with their 12th anniversary.

The closing of an established neighborhood anchor like this is worth tracking if you follow real estate and commercial activity in northeast Minneapolis or anywhere in the Twin Cities metro. Community anchors shape neighborhoods, and how they change over time matters.
