Americana Set to Replace Barrio in Edina’s 50th & France
The Twin Cities restaurant scene is buzzing with change, and Edina is at the center of it. After 15 years, Cocina Del Barrio at 5036 France Ave. S. will close its doors on October 1, 2025. In its place, two well-known restaurateurs—Daniel del Prado and Ryan Burnet—are launching a brand-new concept called Americana.
A Fresh Concept for a Changing Neighborhood
Burnet, who owns the building, said the neighborhood is shifting and needed something new. Instead of mothballing the space, he partnered with del Prado, calling him one of the most respected operators in the business.
What to Expect Inside Americana
The design will feature two very different experiences:
-
Downstairs: A midcentury modern aesthetic, with light brown and neutral tones for a sleek, stylish atmosphere.
-
Upstairs: A lush arboretum-style dining room, complete with a glass-enclosed, four-season patio designed by Christian Dean Architecture.
The restaurant could open within a year, depending on approvals.
Why 50th & France Matters
For del Prado, Americana isn’t just a new restaurant. It’s part of a bigger vision: transforming 50th & France in Edina into a thriving dining district that rivals the North Loop in Minneapolis. With nearby projects like Gavin Kaysen’s Bellecour Bakery and Café, and the team behind Mr. Paul’s Supper Club operating multiple concepts in the area, the neighborhood is quickly becoming a foodie destination.
A New Chapter for Edina Dining
Cocina Del Barrio was a staple of Edina’s dining for over a decade. Its departure marks the end of an era, but Americana promises a bold new chapter.
Will Americana become the next must-visit spot in Edina? Only time will tell, but with del Prado and Burnet at the helm, expectations are high.
