Planet Fitness Expands to Northeast Minneapolis with New $15/Month Gym
Minneapolis residents, get ready to break a sweat—without breaking the bank. Planet Fitness is opening a brand-new location in Northeast Minneapolis this fall, bringing its affordable, no-judgment workout model to a booming part of the city. The gym will be located at 575 Ninth St. SE inside the 9th Street Center, a historic warehouse complex near East Hennepin Avenue that’s quickly becoming a lifestyle hub.
The 19,500-square-foot gym is being opened by Fargo-based Baseline Fitness, which already operates over 120 Planet Fitness locations nationwide—including 37 across Minnesota. This will be the second Planet Fitness in Minneapolis, with the other located in south Minneapolis on 26th Avenue.
According to Will Delaney, Baseline’s senior director of marketing, this area was chosen because it has been underserved from a fitness perspective. With the recent explosion of multifamily housing, restaurants, and lifestyle amenities in the area, this gym is arriving at just the right time.
The 9th Street Center already features an eclectic mix of tenants including Top Ten Liquors’ corporate HQ, Minneapolis Cider Co. and its event space, MinnPost, Midwest Climbing Academy, and others. The complex is owned by Hillcrest Development, which transformed it from an underutilized industrial site to a thriving mixed-use community space.
As managing partner Scott Tankenoff put it, the arrival of Planet Fitness is just the beginning. “This will lead to more services, more interest in living and working here, and an overall better experience for everyone in the neighborhood,” he said.
Whether you're looking for a new fitness routine or simply want to keep up with what’s happening in Minneapolis real estate and development—this is one more sign that Northeast is where the action is.
