The Buttered Tin Expands to Plymouth with New Bakery Café Inside Coborn’s

Beloved St. Paul bakery joins Coborn’s Market & Table

The Buttered Tin, one of the Twin Cities’ favorite brunch and bakery destinations, is officially heading west. The popular St. Paul-born restaurant will open a third location inside the upcoming Coborn’s Market & Table in Plymouth, set to debut in early 2026.

The new Coborn’s concept, located off I-494 and Bass Lake Road, is designed as a modern “grocerant” — a blend of grocery store and restaurant — offering both fresh market goods and ready-to-eat meals. The Buttered Tin will have its own café space inside the store, featuring 80 indoor seats and an outdoor patio for warm weather dining.

From Lowertown to the West Metro

Founded in 2013 by Alicia Hinze, a James Beard-recognized pastry chef and Cupcake Wars champion, The Buttered Tin quickly became a staple in St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood. Its second location in Northeast Minneapolis opened in 2021, bringing the same comfort-food favorites and scratch-made treats to a new audience.

Now, Plymouth residents will get to enjoy their famous breakfast and lunch menu, fresh-baked pastries, espresso drinks, and even beer and wine service in the afternoon.

A Collaboration with Coborn’s

Coborn’s, a St. Cloud-based grocer with deep Minnesota roots, is launching its first Twin Cities location with this flagship concept. The company’s Vice President, Dennis Host, shared that they sought out The Buttered Tin because of its strong reputation for quality and community connection.

Hinze said this expansion stays true to their mission: “Made-from-scratch, quality, comfortable food and approachable joy.”

Why It Matters for Plymouth

The Boulevard development, where Coborn’s Market & Table is located, is a 75-acre mixed-use project bringing new energy to the area. The Buttered Tin’s presence adds another locally loved brand to Plymouth’s growing lineup of restaurants and retail.

Expect doors to open in March 2026 at 6130 Sycamore Lane.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to The Buttered Tin, this west metro expansion is one to watch.
