Prior Lake’s park system has been a community favorite for decades, but many of its playgrounds, shelters, and trails are showing their age. This fall, residents will have a chance to shape the future of their outdoor spaces. On November 4, 2025, voters will decide whether to approve a $60 million bond to fund critical park and trail improvements across the city.
H2: What the $60 Million Would Fund
The proposed plan would dedicate $20 million each to Spring Lake Park and Lakefront Park — two of Prior Lake’s most popular destinations. Spring Lake Park would see eight new pickleball courts, up to four new athletic fields, skating rink upgrades, and refreshed shelters, trails, and parking areas.
At Lakefront Park, the proposal includes a new skate park, beach improvements at Watzl’s Beach, basketball courts, a winter warming house, and better lighting and accessibility.
Roughly $10 million to $11 million would go toward citywide trail connections, closing key gaps along Highway 13 and improving walkability and biking access across the community.
H2: How It Affects Homeowners
If approved, the bond would add about $22 per month in property taxes for a median-value Prior Lake home of around $433,600. City officials say the upgrades are essential to keep parks safe, modern, and functional for families as older amenities reach the end of their lifespan.
Construction could begin as early as late 2026, with most projects completed within five years.

Prior Lake began gathering resident input back in 2018 to understand what residents wanted most from their park system. After pausing during the pandemic, the city revisited those plans in 2023 and finalized them in 2024.
Mayor Kirt Briggs emphasized that this plan reflects years of community collaboration, saying, “This proposal was built by the people it serves — and voters will have the final say this November.”
