Bloomington Breaks Ground on $101 Million Community Health and Wellness Center

Bloomington is officially making history with the groundbreaking of its $101.8 million Community Health and Wellness Center, a facility that will redefine how residents experience recreation and well-being in the Twin Cities south metro.

A First-of-Its-Kind Facility for Bloomington

Located at 9801 Penn Avenue South, this 106,000-square-foot complex will be the first city-owned indoor recreation facility in Bloomington’s history. According to city officials, the center will blend fitness, aquatics, and public health services to create a community hub focused on total wellness.

The new center will feature fitness studios, exercise spaces, gymnasiums with bleachers, a walking and jogging track, locker rooms, and a family-friendly pool. Families will also love the indoor playground, designed to make staying active easier year-round — even in a Minnesota winter.

Funded by the Community

In 2023, Bloomington voters approved a half-percent local sales tax to help fund the project. That support made this groundbreaking possible, representing a collective investment in health, recreation, and connection.

City leaders say the goal is to make the center more than just a gym — it’s meant to serve as a true community gathering space, hosting events, programs, and wellness initiatives for residents of all ages.

Boosting Quality of Life in the South Metro

As the Twin Cities metro continues to grow, cities like Bloomington are doubling down on livability projects that make daily life better for residents. This new center fits perfectly into that vision, offering accessible fitness and wellness opportunities while bringing people together in one central location.

Construction is officially underway, and excitement is already building across Bloomington and the surrounding communities.

Looking Ahead

The Community Health and Wellness Center is expected to open in the coming years, joining a wave of new investments in Minnesota’s suburban development landscape.

Whether you’re into fitness, family fun, or simply want more indoor options during those cold winter months, this center promises to deliver.

If you’d like to stay up-to-date on projects like this across the Twin Cities and east metro, follow along — and if you’re thinking about buying or selling in the area, I’d love to help you make your next move.
